Two People Talk About Awesome Things

This weekend I came across two little talks/videos by awesome people. Both Geoff McFetridge and Brian Jones have awesome things to say.

First up is Geoff McFetridge talking at the Do Lectures. I found this one via Drawn!. It’s awesome to hear him tell his story and hear his thoughts on graphic design. One interesting thing I found out watching the video is that he writes poetry. Another interesting side note: he does this speech while a video of him doodling is running in the background. Very, very rad.

Next up is the first Show & Tell Podcast by the Friends of Graphic Design. Brian talks about lots of dope things in this video. Some of these dope things include: the power of pie, why you should go from A to shoe instead of A to B, and about the awesomeness of personal projects. Chirping birds and interesting things guaranteed.

Free Doodles IV

Free Doodles IV is a zine of doodles that you can print out and make yourself. It’s super easy to make and only requires one sheet of paper. Find out how to make one below.

First off here are the dope people that submitted doodles:
Cover. Eric Smith
I. Maxime Francout
II. Luke James
III. Brandi Duncan
IV. Ziebo
V. James Wilson
VI. Lindsey Gooden

Second, download the zine. By the way you’re gonna need Acrobat Reader to view and print these files.

Third, constructing the zine:
I. Print the first page of the zine. If part of the zine is cropped rotate the way it’s printed. Also don’t select shrink to fit.
II. Print the second page on the opposite side.
III. Fold it. Rather than trying to explain how to fold it and fail watch this video, or this video, or this video.

There you go, you have yourself a one page zine. If you would like to contribute to future Free Doodles zines go here. Stay rad.

Call for Doodles

The Free Doodles zine has been very successful so far. Many people asked if they could submit their doodles for future zines. Well here’s how.

E-mail (superdupersubmit AT gmail DOT com) me a doodle that fits these specs:
W: 2.40in H: 3.4333in
300 DPI
Grayscale

There is no deadline to submit your doodles or a limit on how many you can submit. Every doodle you submit has the possibility of appearing in a future Free Doodles zine. I’ve got my fingers crossed that there will be lots of ’em. Got any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

PS Thanks to Design for Mankind, Booooooom, Doodlers Anynomus, Brandonnn, and Culture Push for featuring the first Free Doodles zine.
